Sunday Sewing Day

This weekend we went to Wyoming for some family time and a good ski ..I will be posting pictures of that soon! After our return on Sunday morning to the valley, I received a postcard from "fast eyes", she wrote about sewing and how much she wished she could make fabric postcards.

Soooo.. I decided to sew some of my scrap fabric onto 4"x6" card-stock and see what happened! Originally I just wanted to send a return fabric postcard to her, but it turned into an all-day craft-a-thon and next thing I knew it was time to pick up Ryan from work!

PS ..add some fun postage stamps and you're ready to go! I'll show you the final projects as I mail them out!

For Send Something

Thanks to my pen-pal request, I found a website that is all about sending mail to other interested individuals throughout the country and the world; sendsomething.net. I have been making postcards and packages and sending them out to interesting mail buddies. I love this, it really inspires me and my creativity is like snow run-off right now.

Here are a few of the postcards that I have made this last week and sent off. The photographs were both taken on a family vacation to Southern Utah last April, which was a whole lot of fun!

I will post more as I create them ..or at least post the ones I love the most.

More Cute Stationery!

These are sitting on my table (the crafting table!) and waiting for a home.
...maybe they will go up on my etsy site!

This group was sent to my wonderful mom, in Wyoming!
...she also bought the paper for me (go mom!)

Another day, another outfit.

Fun, fun booties ..bought in NY while I lived there!
..and the tights! ..yay! They make me happy with their faux knit sweater pattern.

Tights: Charlotte Russe (I think.)

Workin' hard for my money..

I have blogged about how much I love my job before, and that's exactly how I am feeling for this post. I gambled at school, I feel, going to multiple universities with lots of breaks in between. I lived all over the country, hopping from one interesting place to another, always doing something artsy ..something creative. My degree, which started in Graphic Design, skipped through all of the major Fine Arts and finally materialized whithin Apparel Design and Production. For a long, scary time (think most of the recession) I was worried that I wouldn't be able to work within my field, and I wasn't, not in NY, and not at that time. Working within the industry had become something I couldn't perceive as being within my reach anymore. That's when I gave up ..I was living in New York City at the time, and decided that moving home to be near my family was much better for me than pursuing a job that wasn't happening 2,000+ miles away. I saw it as giving up working in my field. But ha!, something was looking out for me and after settling in to the Salt Lake Valley, I landed the job that I have now, pattern drafting for a company out of Pleasant Grove that specializes in children't costumes. I'm good here, I like it, and it makes me happy. I feel that my school gamble was a great one ...and that my moving home gamble was even better!

Today I have been creating the patterns for a new line we are selling and training a part-time sewer how to run our 6 machines. It's a good day, and this is what my workstation looks like:

Miss. Beccy

This is beautiful Beccy, my office mate! You may remember her from such posts as Bows and bows.. and Has this ever happened to you?

She is lovely ..and always immersed in something interesting, inside and outside of work. Today she wore this wonderful outfit and I had to stop her before she left the office and take a few shots!

Envelopes to my Seeester..

I am getting more refined in my stationery making and have started to continually make sets of three envelopes with cards. This may change in the future, but for me, for now, it works great!

I have also designed a smaller envelope template that fits easily within the boundaries of an 8 1/2" x 11" sheet of paper ...a typical magazine page. I will showcase the magazine envelopes in a later post.

For now, though, look at these cute groups of stationery that I made just recently! One was sent to Missouri for my sister, and one ..you may remember, was sent to Soma! ..

Package for Soma!

This is what I put together to send off to my new pen-pal, Soma! How fun. I really enjoyed putting it all together and have already started putting aside fun things for later packages!

Package includes:
1 set of baby animal stamps
1 photograph of Southern Utah ...with a letter written on back
1 package of 3 sets of sarah k stationery
and..
2 sets of 4 vintage buttons, sewn onto thin cardboard

Happy travels!

My mom has a new craft!

..she has stumbled upon the addictiveness of beads and beading. How fun! For years and years I beaded circles around her ...dragging her to beading stores and conventions, giving her countless gifts, and growing a generally HUGE collection of beads right there beside her. Her interests had gone elsewhere.

Until now.

This weekend she drove up from Wyoming to feed her new beading frenzy and we paraded around the valley bead stores. Ryan was patient ...very, very patient and eventually we dropped him off at a tattoo convention. So much more fun for him than beads.

She went home happy and the car a little heavier, to create a multitude of wonderful things, and here are a few fun photos from the middle of the day, our taco cart lunch in the rain.

Assignment 1: 7-day Rainbow

I created this project for someone that requested one, and I feel that it would be a really good thing to post here too! Anyone who wants to participate, feel free! I would love to see the outcome and I am very open to completing an assignment in exchange. Leave me a message for my PO Box if you would like ...and have fun!

Assignment:

7 Days
7 Photographs
7 Colors

*Free to interpretation.

I will post any, including the requested assignment, as they come in. Also, I am currently thinking that "assignment" posts might need to be implemented on a more regular basis!

Happy picture taking!

Monster Kitten

Pictures, Mail and Glitter

This opening of the unknown pen-pal door is really getting my idea machine working!! Anytime in the last few days that my mind has been idle, I am planning what I will be making next. It's wonderful.

Here are a few more fun things that I am sending out in the mail!

What were they thinking...

After adding a few stickers and a little humorous touch to this beautiful Japanese postcard, it was sent off to my friend Dave, in NY..

...happy trails.

Fruit Salad Stationery

I created these last night for a friend that lives in New York. She has been making her own stationery for a little bit now, and I love getting her letters in the mail and seeing her progress. Her creativity inspired me to create something fun for her ...to hopefully inspire her! One big circle.

Hope you like them!

Flowers on Canal

Spring! I love that this amazingly bright floral print makes me yearn for spring to arrive. I am also very happy with the print collision that is happening between the floral and the purple plaid scarf!!

Happy Valentine's Pies

Hopefully you all wore red to work and smiled at heart shaped things yesterday.
Maybe you baked red and pink treats..

..or gave your girlfriends tiny boxes of conversation hearts.

Hopefully you received some wonderful gift from your fella ...or rightfully bashed the holiday with your single girlfriends.

Maybe you had a fanciful dinner, crammed into a fancy restaurant ...or maybe just burgers.

However you celebrated your holiday, I hope it was delightful and that you remember it fondly. I will be remembering this one every time I get the urge to bake pie! Ryan surprised me last night with these two wonderful vintage Royal by Jeanette pie plates that I had been, not so silently, requesting!

Pebbles found

This is a small sneak peek into my second bedroom ...aka the craft and stuff room. We don't even really have a bed in there, just an air mattress for visitors to float through the night on. I love this bowl, my father made it! He turns beautiful objects out of interesting blocks of wood. I also love all of the objects within it ..all found along my traveled path. The stones are a combination of Washington state and California beaches, with some Moab, Utah stones mixed in. And the acorns are from a small plot of grass that Ryan, Dingo and I found along the highway in Brooklyn.

Looking at this photo ..especially with the photo of my hitchhiking days inside it, I feel like I have really come a long way, and that it has been such a good road. I look forward to what traveling I will do next! ..and I am already starting to make plans for a trip to the coast in the spring.

Where is Waldo?

I would really like to get into outfit posts, I enjoy seeing how other bloggers put their clothes together ..and where the buy them, I just haven't made that leap. Oh, and there is this thing that I have that keeps me inside all day; work. Maybe that's an excuse, I know ...I know, I just haven't been able to get a good outfit shot at the office ...ever. It could be because of embarrassment, but I feel that it just isn't the best building for awesome shot photos of really well put together ensembles.

I changed that today.

I love what I am wearing, so I took a few key close-ups about what makes me happy about what I am wearing.

Sweater and Necklace; Forever 21

Shoes: Steven by Steve Madden
Jeans; Vigoss
(both bought at Nordstrom Rack)

Pen~pals

I love a good pen-pal ..and I am writing this post because I just requested to be someones pen-pal that I don't know!
..someone inspiring
..someone that is crafty.

This is new to me, something that I have never done before, and to celebrate jumping into uncharted territory I would like to share some photos of recently sent packages to my "charted territory" pen-pals ..ones that I have been corresponding with for years!

Sorry for the tiniest bit of blur on the second photo ..it's the only one I have of this package.

Usually I only write letters ..don't think that I am super-human and crazy-generous, but occasionally I get nipped by inspiration and packages get put together and sent out.

I will let you know if anything comes of this spontaneously written, leap of faith!

Winter Leaves; Postcards

After recoloring my winter hike photos, I printed a few of them out and turned them into some postcards to send away to my friends that live in other areas of the country. I used a thick card-stock for the back and a thinner printed paper for the two that have a center sheet. I used regular elmer's glue, and slid them between the pages of a heavy book to dry. The finished product ended up a little curved due to the glue, so next time I plan on using spray adhesive. It's a little messier and you have to use it outside, but it works better at covering areas and laying things flat.

For the back I usually add some personal touches like stamps or stickers and then write whatever I have to say.

Enjoy!

The Coloring of Leaves

Remember this post ..and how I really wanted start playing with color?

Well I have been doing little bits here and there and this is something wonderful that has come out of it.

Peri comes visiting

One of my very favorite people came into and out of town yesterday, and although I was only able to see her for a very short amount of time, I drove away feeling happy and inspired. Not only were we wearing the same socks ..from the same store, but we were creatively thinking in the same direction. With such a huge blogging world right now, constantly impressing us with creative ideas, it's hard not to want to make something.

..so, I would just like to say thank-you to all of my inspiring friends out there, my creative world just wouldn't be the same without you!

This project is one that I started months ago, but set down for other interests and the busyness of life. I am happy to say that this weekend I finished it! Yay.

My mom first bought me some embroidery iron-ons ..I love them! I quickly bought more. This is the first that I have tried using, and I look forward to many, many more!

My growing collection of embroidery Iron-on transfers. I especially love the vintage, days of the week ones!

This is a close up of the process.

My first finished towell! ..I'm so proud.
