The family expansion...

Here it is, aside from my half sister, whom I don't really know, my family has added a new member, branch and level. Our small spread out group has created a new tab, the next generation ...and he is beautiful. Sure, sure, that is what every blood relative says of the new members, but it's true. He's delightful. He screams and gurgles and lolls his head around and we love him all the more for it. Life and love have changed for me, and it's a great place to be.

Subway system...

It's really extraordinary, the amount of time that I spend walking to trains, waiting for them to arrive and then riding them. This is one of many subway platform views that I see on a regular basis (read: everyday), and although I am a big fan of public transportation ...and really do like the above ground platform more than the below ground one, I am really looking forward to sitting behind the wheel of a car!!

Thanksgiving squared!

It's been a very long time since I have uploaded anything to this sight and I guess that a second Thanksgiving post is the perfect way for re-introduction. I have spent the last year in New York City. It has been testing and frustrating. I have learned things about myself that I would have never learned any other way. I have stuggled and been frantic and lonely and yet had days where I drank coffee out in front of the store and quietly enjoyed the sunlight hitting the West Village in front of me. My friends from home have pushed their way to the surface and shown me that we are a different breed of people with different wants and needs, and my friends here have been supportive, though vague and absent at times. This city really forces you into self involvement.

That being said I would like to welcome you back to my blog ...which I hope to be more attentive to from now on ...no city=more time.

These photos were taken walking through Central Park directly after the Thanksgiving parade! Though the parade was fun and things were floating, I felt that the park was prettier, with just the right bit of calm and color and at times that is what we need more of!

For the beginning of 'holiday '08' I ventured out onto the Brooklyn Bridge. Seems about time since I have lived here for 5 months and only live about an 8 minute walk from it. So here is my touristy photo tour of Thanksgiving. And for those of you who are aware of my fear of hights (which is large) I didn't make it all the way across.

Mr. Gregg Gillis

For anyone that doesn't know, there is a phenomenon sweaping the nation.. one that is Mr. Gregg Gillis and his meshing, genius, maddness; "Girl Talk". Last night was the second show at Terminal 5 in New York City, and past all of the 80's attire including headbands, flourestcent splatter paint and running shorts worn over colored tights, was this energetic king of his own bouncing, pulsing party. A proper way to end an otherwise boring weekend. xo.

Ah, Brooklyn ..you never know what you will stumble upon while wandering around with your favorite four legged friend, drinking your morning coffee.

Washington

One of the things that I find the most inspiring about living in the city is the amazing amount of creativity that people display in the most random of places. It's like the city takes on a certain personal aspect that you don't get in smaller populated areas, people decorate it as they would their bedroom or community garden, showing off their talents and political viewpoints. This color, design and humor ...not to mention sometimes darkside to the everyday walk and wander really lend a brightness to a concrete filled environment

Manhattan Painted Sky

I got out of work late this evening, not all that uncommon, but the sky was cloud covered and lit up with moonlight ..demanding attention be paid to it, which for those of you familiar with NYC you know how rare it is for the sky to take the spot light. I took this shot at the corner of 6th and 40th, right across from Bryant Park. To me it really grabs the full essence of my walk home which was completely surreal ..dream like.

TR fahion show and beyond..

I haven't posted anything in awhile because I have fully dedicated myself to being a spoke on the wheel of NY fashion week and one of it's many marvelous fashion shows. For the last two weeks I have been working long hours at Tracy Reese getting ready for the show that happened on Sunday. It was a truly amazing experience, and all the long hours were fast and challenging ..the days flew by and I was happy the whole time. Here are some photos from this fabulous event!

The internship begins...

So it has finally begun, this mythtical internship of so much patience, debate and unreserved excitement. I started this last wednesday and haven't really had much time to sit down since. The internship is within the TR design area for Tracy Reese. There are three lines being produced for each season in this office, and a wonderfully inspiring work area to do it in! Here are a few random things that have to do with my short first week:

* I learned how to dye loads of fabric using a washing machine.
* My thoughts tend to have an english accent when I leave work every day because I talk alot with Sophie from Northern England.
* I run tons of errands ..up and down and up and down..
* I'm finding all sorts of wonderful fabric stores in the area to go to on weekends!
* I'm continually inspired (yay!)
* Tom Cody, Phillip Lim and Peter Som are also in the same building.
* My pedometer says that I walk just under 10 miles a day, and my feet hurt ..alot!
* I'm getting used to bad smells, but not to things that drip on you when you walk down the street.
* I now understand why people are irritated with the summer due to it's tourists! ..especially when I need to run down the street to by dye for a rushed project.
* I am learning so much about the industry ..me the smiling sponge!
* As of last night, I now know that the lower east side is one giant bar!

Dumbo

Yesterday was my first official day in my new apartment, I would call it a "home" but I haven't really unpacked and I am sleeping on a futon mattress on the floor. My good friends, Dylan and Beth, took the train down from New Paltz yesterday and spent the day exploring my new neighborhood with me. We wandered all day into areas that I wouldn't have seen with just Dingo as company, and reminisced for hours about our past. Each of these pictures were taken within 5 blocks of my apartment!
